Lustrous on one side and with a crepe texture on the other, this light to medium weight fabric is called crepe-back satin when its glossy side is its face, and satin-back crepe when the dull side is the face. It can be called crepe satin or satin crepe as well. Sometimes the contrasting sides of the fabric are both used on the outside of a garment.

A wonderful selction of crepe and satin dressmaking fabrics suitable for dresses, blouses and anything where a light floaty fabric is required.

I was told on a subreddit that crepe was the best of these, and Joann's Casa collection had a blue that looks right. I don't know anything about crepe, though, and some sites say it's hard to work with, and others say it's ok. I've done three cosplays now myself (mostly), but one was mostly altering existing clothes, so you know what level I am, experience wise.

A much heavier version of the medium crepe-back-satin. Suitable for the most luxurious bridal wear and evening wear, this fabric has a sensual soft drape and is available in many stunning colours. This is a heavy weight fabric and in certain lights very feint lines can be detected across the width of the fabric. These come from the weaving process and we are unable to remove them. It was rated easy, so I figured what the hey. I bought some green crepe back satin at Joann’s. (I know, not always the best store for brand-variety, but I have a need to feel the fabric. Plus, the coupons!) Here is a picture of the color: Not the best picture. It looks yellower than it really is. Anyways, it was fairly easy like the pattern says. As with all Butterick patterns, there isn’t.
